Come join us on a lovely 3.6-mile roundtrip hike through an Alaska State Park into the Tongass National Forest. Enjoy a small group of up to 7 guests! First relax on the 40-minute scenic drive to the end of the road. Then hike an improved gravel trail alongside a river with glimpses of waterfalls. Walk through a magical old-growth rainforest displaying impressive specimens of Sitka spruce and western red cedar fencing in the trail. Besides some stairs at the beginning of the hike, the trail flattens out and winds along the river valley below a ridge. 1 mile down the trail, our destination is a stone bench beside a serene bow in the river, where we can pause and enjoy one another and the peace and quiet. This tour is led by owner and operator, Tongass Teague. Enjoy connecting with him, each other, and the wilderness of Southeast Alaska. Ask about practicing mindfulness! Ask about our endangered old-growth forests and how to protect them!

Q&A

Q: What's the age limit for kids on this hike?

A: There’s no strict age limit, but I'd say kids around 10 and up would enjoy it most. The hike is about 3.6 miles and there are some stairs at the start, so younger ones might struggle a bit. Just make sure they’re up for a little adventure!

Q: What should I wear for the creek trek? Is it muddy?

A: Comfortable hiking shoes are a must! The trail is gravel but can be slippery near the creek. I recommend wearing layers because it can get chilly in the forest. Also, bring a rain jacket just in case—Alaska weather can be unpredictable!

Q: Can this be rescheduled if the weather is bad?

A: Yes, if the weather looks really bad, they will work with you to reschedule. Just make sure to contact them as soon as you can. They want everyone to have a great experience and will do their best to accommodate changes.

Thinking of gifting the Ketchikan creek trek! Anyone tried it?

I’m considering this magical old-growth creek trek for my friend's birthday! The 3.6-mile hike sounds perfect for nature lovers, and I love that it’s a small group. Has anyone done it? I'm curious about the scenery and if it’s worth the price (which I think is free?!). Any tips on what to bring?

Just finished the Ketchikan old-growth trek! Wow!

I just got back from the creek trek with Tongass Teague, and it was amazing! The drive to the trailhead was gorgeous, and the hike itself felt like stepping into another world. The trees are enormous and the peace by the river was surreal. I definitely recommend bringing some snacks to enjoy at the bench. Great experience for anyone who loves the outdoors!
