Come join us on a stunning 4-mile roundtrip hike in a small group of up to no more than 7 guests! This tour is led by owner and operator, Tongass Teague. Enjoy connecting with him, each other, and the wilderness of Southeast Alaska. Hike an improved gravel trail alongside a forested lake below a mountain. Plenty of spots for picture taking. From there, the second mile’s more natural tread is mixed with gravel, large rocks, and roots as you ascend through an old-growth rainforest displaying large specimens of Sitka spruce. Learn about some of our flora and fauna and hear about our complicated logging history and what it means for our future. Learn how to protect our endangered old-growth forests! At 1100 feet of elevation, arrive at the bottom of an avalanche chute (devoid of snow in the summer), our destination. Be one of only two tours a day allowed on this cherished trail.

Q&A

Q: How strenuous is the hike? I’m worried it might be too much for my dad who hasn’t hiked in years.

A: The Ketchikan Mountain Lake Trek is a 4-mile roundtrip hike, but it's moderate in difficulty. The first part is pretty easy, with an improved gravel trail, but the second half does have some roots and rocks, so it can be a bit tricky. If your dad's mobile enough for a walk in the park, he should be fine! Plus, Tongass Teague is really great at pacing the group, so no one gets left behind.

Q: What should we wear for this trek? Is it cold at the avalanche chute?

A: You’ll want to dress in layers! It can be warm at the start but gets cooler as you climb, especially near the avalanche chute. I’d suggest moisture-wicking clothes, good hiking boots, and maybe a light jacket. Don’t forget sunblock if it’s a sunny day—those reflective lake waters can be tricky!

Q: Is there a cancellation policy if the weather turns bad?

A: Yes, they do have a weather cancellation policy! If the conditions are unsafe, they’ll either reschedule or offer a full refund. Just make sure to confirm closer to your booking date. They’re pretty good about keeping in touch if weather's looking dicey.
