Q&A
A: There’s no official age limit for the Kilauea Helicopter Tour, but children under 2 can fly for free on a parent's lap. Kids ages 2-12 need their own seat. Just keep in mind that it can be a bit loud, so bringing ear protection for younger kids is a good idea. It’s definitely a unique experience to share with the whole family!
A: Weather can be a bit unpredictable on the Big Island, so there's always a chance of cancellation, especially if there's low visibility or high winds. Rainbow Helicopters will usually contact you the day before if there's a concern. I recommend booking for the morning when conditions are often clearer. If it does get canceled, they’re pretty good about rescheduling.
A: Definitely wear layers since it can get chilly up in the air, even in Hawaii! Bring sunglasses and a camera to capture the views, but don't forget the phone strap they provide! Also, if you’re prone to motion sickness, maybe take some Dramamine beforehand. And don’t forget to enjoy the ride—it's breathtaking!

Just did the Kilauea Helicopter Tour - Holy Moly, what a ride!
I went on the helicopter tour over Kilauea last week, and wow, it was absolutely insane! We chose the 'doors off' option, and I can't even begin to describe how exhilarating it felt to hover above the lava flows. The contrast of the bright orange lava against the black rock and green forests was stunning. It’s pricey, but totally worth it for the views and the experience of a lifetime. I’d suggest booking early in the day for clearer skies! Anyone else done it?
Considering gifting the Kilauea Tour - any tips?
I'm thinking about gifting this helicopter tour for my boyfriend’s birthday. He’s never flown in a helicopter, and the idea of flying over Kilauea is just wild! I’m worried about motion sickness since he gets that sometimes. Any tips or experiences you guys could share? Would love to hear your thoughts!
