Q&A

Q: Do we need to book in advance for the Kona Whale Watch, or can we just show up?

A: It's definitely better to book in advance, especially during peak whale watching season. The catamaran can fill up fast! If you do end up needing to change your plans, they are usually flexible with rescheduling; just give them a call ahead of time. Plus, booking early can help you snag the best seats on board!

Q: What's the best time of year to go on the whale watch?

A: The best time for whale watching in Hawaii is typically between December and April. That's when the humpbacks are most active in the warm waters. If you go during this time, you're almost guaranteed to see them, plus the weather is usually pretty nice. Just make sure to check the forecast before you go, as conditions can change!

Q: What should I wear on the catamaran? Is it cold out there?

A: It's usually warm, but I’d definitely recommend wearing layers. The sun can be strong, and it can get a bit chilly when you're cruising on the water, especially if the wind picks up. A light jacket or a long-sleeve shirt can be helpful, plus don’t forget your sunglasses and sunscreen! You’ll want to be comfy while you enjoy the views.

Just got back from the Kona Whale Watch—AMAZING experience!

I just did the Kona Deluxe Catamaran Whale Watch last week and wow, it was so worth it! We saw multiple humpbacks breaching and even a pod of dolphins joined us. The crew was super friendly and shared some cool facts about the whales. The tropical cocktails were a nice touch, too! Highly recommend it for anyone visiting the Big Island. Just be prepared for a bit of a breeze out there!

Thinking about gifting the whale watch experience—thoughts?

I’m looking to surprise my parents with the Kona Whale Watch for their anniversary. They love the ocean and have never seen whales! Do you think it’s a good gift? Does anyone have tips on making it special for them?
