Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for the Matanuska Glacier hike? I'm thinking of gifting it to my kids.

A: There’s no strict age limit, but kids should be at least 10 years old to handle the terrain. The hike can be quite uneven and challenging in parts. It’s a good idea to gauge their comfort with hiking before booking. The guides are great with kids, but you want to make sure they’re up for it!

Q: What should I wear for the glacier hike? Is it really cold up there?

A: Layering is key! Wear moisture-wicking base layers, a warm middle layer, and a waterproof outer layer. Don't forget gloves and a hat! It can be chilly and windy on the glacier, even in summer. Also, sturdy hiking boots are a must!

Q: How do you get to the glacier from Anchorage? Is parking easy?

A: The tour includes free hotel pickup and drop-off in Anchorage, which is super convenient! If you’re driving, it's about a 2-hour trip each way. Parking at the glacier isn’t an issue, but it’s best to go with the tour for the full experience and no stress about logistics.

Just did the Matanuska Glacier hike - what an experience!

I went on the Matanuska Glacier hike last week and I can’t recommend it enough! The guides were super knowledgeable and the scenery was out of this world. We learned about all the glacial features and got to walk on the ice, which felt unreal. The drive was about 2 hours, but they stopped halfway so we could grab lunch. Bring your camera because the photos come out amazing!

Thinking about gifting the glacier hike - any tips?

I want to get this Matanuska Glacier hike for my brother’s birthday. He loves adventure! I worry about how tough it might be for him since he’s not a regular hiker. Has anyone done it and can share how beginner-friendly it is?
