Q&A
A: Definitely dress in layers! It can be super chilly at the summit before sunrise, so a light jacket or hoodie is a must. As you bike down, you'll warm up quickly, and you can shed the layers. Also, sturdy sneakers are better than flip-flops for the ride. Don't forget sunscreen for the daytime part!
A: Great question! There’s no strict age limit, but kids need to be at least 12 years old to go on the bike tour. They should also weigh a minimum of 100 lbs to safely ride the bikes. It's a fantastic experience for teens — they’ll love the thrill of biking downhill!
A: Parking can be a bit tight in Paia, especially in the morning. I recommend arriving at least 30 minutes early to find a spot. There are some public lots nearby, but they fill up fast. If you can, carpool or take an Uber to avoid the hassle!

Just did the Haleakala Sunrise Downhill Bike Tour - what an experience!
I went on the Haleakala Sunrise Downhill Bike Tour last week and it was honestly one of the best things I've ever done! We started super early at 3 AM to see the sunrise, and wow, it was breathtaking. The views from 10,023 feet are out of this world! After the sunrise, the bike ride through the upcountry was so much fun—easy slopes and beautiful scenery. Just be ready for chilly temps at the top! Totally worth it. I even took my time soaking it all in, and the snacks provided were tasty too.
Thinking about gifting the Sunrise Bike Tour for my husband’s birthday.
My husband loves biking and I think this would be a unique gift! He’s all about adventures so the sunrise view would blow his mind. I’m just a bit nervous about the early start and if he’ll find it challenging. Has anyone done this with someone who’s not an experienced rider?
