Witness the dawning of a new day atop Haleakala (the house of the sun) a dormant volcanic mountain overlooking Maui on the east side. Deep canyons and slopes and unspoiled terrain are home to endemic Hawaiian Nene geese and rare Silversword plants. You'll be transported in a comfortable mini coach to 9,740 feet elevation, close to the summit to witness the ultimate sunrise; a spectacular show of lights and colors. The sunrise tour is an unforgettable experience and a definite must-do on your Hawaii vacation. On the descent, marvel at sprawling scenic views of Kula and the Pacific Ocean on your way to breakfast at local favorite, Cafe O'Lei at the Plantation in Waikapu.

Q&A

Q: What time do we need to be picked up for the Haleakala sunrise tour?

A: Pick-up times vary depending on your hotel location, but you're usually looking at around 2:30 AM to 3:30 AM. It sounds super early, but trust me, seeing the sunrise from the summit is worth every minute of lost sleep! Just be ready for some chilly temps at the top.

Q: Is there an age limit for kids on this tour?

A: There's no specific age limit, but it's best for kids who can handle early mornings. Also, the drive up can be a bit winding, so if your little ones get car sick, maybe bring some ginger candies. They’ll love the breakfast at Cafe O'Lei afterward!

Q: What should we wear for the Haleakala sunrise tour? Is it cold up there?

A: Definitely dress in layers! It gets pretty chilly at the top, so I’d recommend a warm jacket, hat, and gloves. You’ll want to be comfortable for the ride back down too. And wear comfy shoes since there’s a bit of walking at the summit.

Just did the Haleakala Sunrise Tour—unforgettable!

I went on this tour last week and wow, what an experience! The views from the summit of Haleakala at sunrise were breathtaking. We got picked up around 3 AM, and the mini coach was super comfy. Breakfast at Cafe O'Lei afterward was delicious! I got the loco moco and it hit the spot. Just a heads up though, it was really cold up there, so make sure to bundle up!

Considering the Haleakala sunrise experience as a gift—thoughts?

I’m looking to surprise my siblings with something special during our trip to Maui next month, and I came across this Haleakala sunrise tour. I think it’d be amazing to share such a unique moment together! Has anyone else done this? How was the overall experience?
