Led by both an astronomer and an astro-photographer, we’re the only stargazing tour that combines expert guidance with astrophotography, offers two-hour experiences, avoids crowds, and has a stargazing guarantee. Part 1 – All ages welcome. We meet at our dark-sky location on the safe, comfortable slopes of Mauna Kea or Mauna Loa. Relax in a reclining folding chair, sip hot chocolate, enjoy the cool mountain air, and watch the stars appear. Part 2 – Using our Celestron Origin smart telescope, our astronomer brings the universe to you. No eyepiece required. Controlled by a smartphone, it produces stunning live images on-screen. See galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters in real time while your astronomer explains each object and answers your questions. Part 3 – While you enjoy the view, our astro-photographer captures epic images of you and your group under the night sky. Med-size digital files are emailed within 48 hours, with high-resolution upgrades available.

Q&A

Q: Is there a weight limit for the reclining chairs they provide?

A: There’s no specific weight limit mentioned, but the chairs are designed to be sturdy and accommodate a variety of body types. It’s best to contact Epic Tours directly if you have concerns, as they can provide specific details. Just reach out via their website!

Q: What happens if the weather looks bad? Can we reschedule?

A: If the weather is not suitable, Epic Tours will usually reschedule for you without an extra charge. They keep a close eye on forecasts and will communicate any changes ahead of time. Just be sure to confirm directly with them when you book!

Q: What do you wear for the Mauna Kea stargazing experience? Is it cold?

A: You’ll definitely want to dress in layers! It can get pretty chilly up at Mauna Kea, especially at night. Epic Tours provides parkas, but I recommend wearing warm clothing underneath. Think long sleeves and maybe a beanie if you’re sensitive to cold.

Thinking about booking the Mauna Kea stargazing experience as a gift!

I’m so excited to give this stargazing experience as a gift! I read that it’s led by an astronomer and a photographer, which sounds amazing! I mean, who wouldn’t want to see galaxies and get cool pics of themselves under the stars? Just wondering if anyone here has done it and if it’s worth the price? I want to make sure it’ll be special for the person I’m gifting it to!

I'm looking to book this as a surprise for my partner's birthday but wondering about the logistics. How’s the drive up to Mauna Kea? Is it easy to find the meeting spot? Also, any tips for making the experience extra special?
