Q&A
A: There’s no strict age limit, but I’d recommend this experience for teens and older because of the night hiking and camera handling. Kids might find it challenging, especially if they don’t have a good grasp of using a DSLR or mirrorless camera. Plus, the late night could be rough for younger ones! Just check with the tour provider beforehand if you're unsure.
A: Definitely dress in layers! It can get pretty chilly in the desert after dark, even in the summer. A good pair of hiking boots is a must since you'll be walking around. Don’t forget to bring a hat and sunglasses for the daytime, too. Oh, and if you have a headlamp or flashlight, that'd be super helpful for navigating in the dark!
A: If the weather’s bad, Rock Light Photo Tours usually reschedules the experience. They’re great about keeping an eye on the forecast and will let you know in advance. Just be flexible with your dates if possible since this experience is all about the clear night skies! It's definitely worth the wait for a good night.

Just finished the Milky Way Photography tour in Arches!
I recently went on the Milky Way Photography experience with Rock Light Photo Tours and it was such a blast! The night sky is just stunning in Arches. Our guide was super knowledgeable about camera settings and helped us find some awesome foregrounds for our shots. I ended up with a few amazing photos to frame! Just be ready for the dark and bring a jacket—it gets chilly. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to up their photography game!
Considering gifting the Milky Way Photography experience!
I’m thinking of getting this experience for my boyfriend’s birthday, but he’s never used a DSLR before. Is it still worthwhile for a complete beginner? Also, how long does it usually last? I want to make sure he gets enough time to learn and practice. Thanks for any tips!
