Q&A
A: Great question! There aren't any strict age limits for the tour at Mount Vernon, so your kids can definitely join. Just keep in mind that some parts of the estate might be more interesting for older children or teens. The guided tour is informative, and younger kids might need a little extra context, but it’s definitely family-friendly!
A: You’ll want to dress in layers! The tour includes lots of walking around the outdoor estate, so comfy shoes are a must. In summer, it can get hot, but some parts are shaded. Just check the weather to see if you need a light jacket or umbrella for potential rain.
A: Absolutely! If the weather is bad, you can usually reschedule. Just contact DC Guided Tours directly as soon as you can, and they’ll help you find a new date that works. They’re pretty flexible about that, especially if you’re looking at heavy rain.

Just did the Mount Vernon tour, and it was amazing!
I recently took the Mount Vernon Admission & Guided Tour and wow, it blew me away. The history is so rich! Our guide was super knowledgeable and made everything come alive, especially when we visited George and Martha Washington's tombs. The Slave Quarters were a sobering but important part of the tour. Old Town Alexandria afterwards was just perfect for some shopping and lunch. Highly recommend it for history buffs or anyone looking to learn more about American history!
Considering gifting the Mount Vernon tour—thoughts?
Thinking about giving my parents the Mount Vernon tour for their anniversary. They love history and have always talked about visiting. Is the tour engaging enough for older folks? And how’s the walking? Any tips would help!
