"The best paddling destination I have seen on three continents!" - owner Mike Graney There is no better way to see Southeast Alaska's dramatic majesty and abundant wildlife than by kayak. Due to the rugged terrain and excellent protected waterways, the original inhabitants traveled almost entirely by boat. Whales, Alaskan brown bears, sea lions, seals, otters, deer and many species of birds inhabit this area in great numbers. The forests are pristine. Sitka spruce, hemlock, and yellow cedar are the predominant trees on the shoreline, and the forests are open and primal. Our expeditions incorporate natural and cultural history, and some of our visited sites have been used for millennia by the Tlingit and Haida people. Our guides excel in interpretive and hard skills and have a deep knowledge of local wild edibles they can share with you to augment meals if interested.

Q&A

Q: What's the age limit for kids on this kayak trip? I'm looking to take my 10-year-old.

A: Kids are definitely welcome on the expeditions! Generally, they recommend ages 8 and up for this adventure, but it really depends on your child's comfort level with kayaking and the outdoors. Just make sure they can handle being in a kayak for a few hours at a time. They provide all the gear needed, so you just need to bring snacks and a sense of adventure!

Q: How's the weather in July? I heard it can be unpredictable.

A: July is generally a great time to visit Sitka! You can expect temperatures between 55-70°F, but definitely be prepared for rain. Layers are your best friend here! Make sure to bring waterproof gear and an extra set of clothes just in case. If the weather gets too rough, the guides are really good about rescheduling or finding alternative plans.

Q: Is it hard to kayak for multiple days? I'm kinda out of shape.

A: The expeditions are designed for all skill levels! If you're not in peak shape, don't sweat it. The guides adjust the pace based on the group, and you'll have plenty of breaks. Plus, you're out there to enjoy the scenery, not just paddle hard. Just be prepared to use some muscles you might not have used in a while!

Just got back from the Sitka Kayak Expedition and WOW!

I can't recommend this enough! We spent 4 days kayaking around Sitka, saw sea lions and even spotted a whale! The guides were super knowledgeable and shared so much about the local culture. The best part? We made our own meals with local wild edibles! Just a heads up, the weather can be a bit unpredictable, so pack for rain! Totally worth it!

Looking to gift the kayak trip to my partner—any advice?

My partner and I love the outdoors, but I'm a bit nervous about the multi-day commitment. How's the food provided? Also, is it romantic? I'm hoping this will be a perfect getaway for us.
