Your tour guide, a Merchant Marine Captain with over 30-years on the water will tour you around Sitka Sound, around the Saint Lazaria Islands and Mt. Edgecumbe - our local volcano. We are located out of Sitka on the western side of Baranof Island, in beautiful Southeast Alaska. We are owned and operated by a year-round resident and adventure outfitter. He states, "There's no place I'd rather be or explore than Southeast Alaska. Here we have the bounty of the Pacific Ocean at our doorstep with over 18,000 miles of coastline encompassing the Tongass National Forest, the largest temperate rain forest in the northern hemisphere. Our mission is to provide our guests with the greatest sea and coastal adventures out there, while providing an element of added safety as we explore one of the most beautiful places on the edges of the earth."

Q: Is there a minimum age for kids to join this wildlife excursion?

A: I asked the operators, and they said there’s no strict age limit! They’ve had kids as young as 5 join, but it really depends on the child's comfort level on boats. Just make sure they’re reasonably well-behaved and can handle being out on the water for a few hours. It’s a family-friendly experience and they provide life jackets for everyone!

Q: What should we wear on the wildlife excursion? Is it cold out there?

A: Definitely dress in layers! Sitka can be chilly with the wind and all. I'd recommend waterproof jackets and shoes since you might get splashed a bit. Even in the summer, it can get a little brisk, especially out on the water. Also, don’t forget hats and sunglasses!

Q: Can we customize our tour route, or is it fixed?

A: Yes! They’re super flexible with the route. You can talk to the captain at the start to discuss what you want to see. They usually go around Mt. Edgecumbe and the Saint Lazaria Islands, but if you have specific requests like seeing certain wildlife or fishing spots, just let them know and they'll work it into the trip. It’s all about making it your own!

Just got back from the wildlife excursion and wow!

I just got back from the Private Charter Scenic Wildlife Excursion in Sitka, and it was incredible! We saw orcas, sea otters, and even got close to Mt. Edgecumbe! The captain was super knowledgeable. We had a private boat just for our group and the snacks were perfect—especially the smoked salmon. If you’re thinking about it, GO FOR IT! Worth every penny!
