Desert Highlights is Moab's original canyoneering guide service. This half day canyoneering tour visits a route that Desert Highlights' founder created as a technical guided canyoneering route in the late 1990's. Here, we explore an area that most people would not visit on their own. With the use of ropes and other technical gear, a competent guide and a sense of adventure, we are able to explore areas that are otherwise inaccessible. The Moab desert is our home and we are passionate about sharing it with others. During your guided tour, you will not only safely descend a beautiful, water-carved canyon, but you will learn about the flora and fauna, geology and history of the area that we are so lucky to call our backyard.

Q&A

Q: What's the age limit for kids on this canyoneering tour? My son is 12 and super adventurous!

A: Typically, they recommend that participants be at least 10 years old for safety reasons. Your 12-year-old should be just fine! Just make sure he's comfortable with heights and climbing. The guides are really good at managing the group and ensuring everyone has a great time. It's a great adventure for kids who love the outdoors!

Q: What should we wear for this canyoneering tour? Is it super dirty or wet?

A: Definitely wear sturdy shoes with good grip! Hiking boots work great, and you might want to wear quick-dry clothes since you could encounter some wet spots in the canyon. And don’t forget a hat and sunscreen! It can get pretty hot out there. The guides provide all the technical gear, so just focus on being comfortable.

Q: How does rescheduling work if the weather turns bad? Just want to make sure we won’t lose our money.

A: If the weather is really bad, the tour company will usually reach out and suggest rescheduling. They’re pretty flexible and want everyone to have a good experience. Just make sure to check their cancellation policy before booking. It’s usually pretty fair, and they’ll help you find another date if needed!
