Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for the hike and swimming part? Thinking of gifting this to my 10-year-old niece.

A: There's no strict age limit, but I'd say it's best for kids aged 7 and up who can handle some light hiking and swimming. Just keep in mind that some parts of the hike can be rocky and a bit steep. Make sure your niece is comfortable with that, and definitely bring water shoes for the swimming part!

Q: What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the hike?

A: If the weather doesn't cooperate, the tour provider will usually reschedule to a later date. They really prioritize safety, especially for the hike and swimming. Definitely check in with them beforehand to see their policy on inclement weather, though!

Q: What should I wear for the hike? Is it alright to wear flip-flops?

A: Definitely don’t wear flip-flops! I'd recommend hiking shoes or sturdy sandals with good grip. The trails can be rocky, and you'll want something that supports your ankles. Also, don't forget your swimsuit under your clothes so you're ready for the Mermaid caves!

Just got back from the Mermaid Caves tour – it was AMAZING!

I can’t recommend this experience enough! The hike to Ka’ena Point was so beautiful, and the views were unreal. The Mermaid cave was so cool, and swimming in there felt like a movie. The picnic on the beach was such a nice touch! We even saw monk seals napping on the shore. Just a heads up, wear good shoes! I saw some folks struggle in flip-flops. Can't wait to do this again!

Thinking about gifting the Mermaid Caves experience!

My sister is visiting from the mainland and I wanna surprise her with something special! The Mermaid caves and that hike sound perfect, but I'm wondering if it's too much for someone who's not very active. Anyone know if the hike is challenging? Also, what’s the picnic food like?
