The experience you've been waiting for all year! Approaching a Giant Sequoia coated in freshly fallen, sparkling snow is a surreal experience. On this moderate, 2.5-mile round trip trail to Bear Hill in Sequoia National Park you'll get the chance to visit countless Giants while learning how to snowshoe! We'll look for the tracks of animals as we learn about Giant Sequoia ecology and the secret winter world beneath our feet. Warm up with a cup of hot cocoa, coffee or tea when we reach Bear Hill and hear the fascinating history of how Bear Hill got its name. There will be lots of great photo opportunities so be sure to bring your camera! *If there is not enough snow on the ground to safely use snowshoes, we will hike the trail on ice cleats instead

Q&A

Q: What should we wear for the snowshoeing adventure?

A: Definitely wear layers! Start with a moisture-wicking base layer, then add an insulating layer (like fleece) and a waterproof outer layer. Don't forget warm socks, gloves, and a hat. Good boots are key for keeping your feet dry and warm, too. You might want to bring an extra pair of gloves in case they get wet.

Q: Is this experience suitable for kids?

A: Yes! This adventure is great for kids, especially if they’re at least 8 years old. The snowshoeing trail isn't too difficult, and the guides are great with young ones. Just make sure they’re bundled up, and they should have a blast hiking among the Giant Sequoias. Plus, the cocoa at the top is a big hit!

Q: What if the weather is bad on the day of our adventure?

A: If the weather is really bad, the team at Sequoia Guides will contact you to reschedule. They prioritize safety and won’t take you out if conditions aren’t good for snowshoeing. Just keep an eye on the forecast and be flexible with your plans. It should be clear enough for a fun trip!
