Surfing can be the most incredible experiences. Surfing takes practice, patience, and will leave you with a better appreciation for the ocean. You will meet me down at the beach where I will have the surfboard, leash, and a wetsuit to keep you nice and warm! After going over safety precautions and etiquette about being a beginner surfer, we will begin teaching you proper paddling technique, the pop-up, as well as how to reach the lineup. Once we have gone over the basics on the beach and we practice a couple times on the sand, we are ready to hit the water! I will be with you the entire time, not surfing like so many other instructors do these days. I want your time to be spent truly learning how to surf and not just struggling while I get paid to have fun! I begin my lessons helping new students get into waves to practice their pop-up, giving critique when needed. After a few good practice waves, I usually start "helping" less and less, not pushing you into waves as hard.

Q: What if it rains on the day of the lesson? Can we reschedule?

A: Yeah, if the weather's bad, you can totally reschedule! Just reach out to Cal Coast Adventures and they’ll work with you to find a new date. It's pretty flexible, which is a huge plus.

Q: Is there an age limit for this surf lesson? Can kids join?

A: Kids are definitely welcome! As long as they feel comfortable in the water and can follow instructions, it should be fine. Just check with the instructor ahead of time for any specific age recommendations.

Q: What should I wear to the lesson? Is it cold in the water?

A: You'll get a wetsuit from the instructor, so just wear your swimsuit underneath! The water can be a bit chilly in San Diego, but the wetsuit keeps you warm. Just bring a towel for after the lesson, too!

I just got this private surf lesson for my boyfriend's birthday at Cal Coast Adventures in Carlsbad! I'm so excited! It includes the surfboard and wetsuit, which is awesome. Do you think I should bring snacks for after? Or just let them eat somewhere nearby? Any tips for a first-timer would be appreciated!
