Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for the private surf lessons in Waikiki? Looking to gift this to my daughter who's 12.

A: No specific age limit, but they recommend kids be at least 8 years old for safety and fun. Your 12-year-old will likely have a blast! Just be sure to ask for a private lesson to ensure she gets the full attention. They also have instructors who are great with younger kids!

Q: What should we wear for the private surf lessons? Do we need to bring our own gear?

A: Wear a swimsuit and a rash guard if you have one, as it helps with sun protection. The surfboards are included, and they provide everything else you need. If you’ve got swim shoes, those are great too, but not necessary. Just make sure to apply sunscreen before heading out!

Q: What if the weather is bad on the day of our lesson? Can we reschedule?

A: If the weather doesn’t cooperate, they’re really flexible about rescheduling. Just give them a call, and they’ll work with you to find a new time. It’s better to go when the conditions are good, so they won’t push it if it’s unsafe!

I’m considering getting my boyfriend private surf lessons with South Shore in Waikiki for his birthday. He’s never surfed before, so I'm hoping this will be a fun intro. Has anyone done this? What did you think? Also, are the instructors good with beginners?
