This exceptional tour takes us to two of Thomas Jefferson's most iconic masterpieces, the University of Virginia and Monticello, both honored as UNESCO World Heritage sites in 1987 for their outstanding cultural significance. Our journey begins with a detailed guided tour of the picturesque University Lawn and the distinguished Rotunda at the University of Virginia, where history and architecture blend beautifully. Next, we head to Monticello's David M. Rubenstein Visitor Center, a thoughtfully designed space featuring an excellent gift shop and numerous engaging exhibitions dedicated to Thomas Jefferson and the rich history of Monticello. For a convenient and pleasant break, you can enjoy a quick bite and refreshing drink at the Monticello Farm Table Cafe before proceeding to your in-depth guided tour of the historic estate.

Q&A

Q: Are there any age restrictions for kids on this tour?

A: There aren't any strict age limits for this tour, but I'd say it's best suited for kids 8 and up. They'd likely appreciate the history and architecture more at that age! Just keep in mind some parts of Monticello may have stairs and uneven paths, so younger kids might need extra supervision.

Q: What should I wear for this tour? Is it all outdoors?

A: Definitely wear comfortable shoes since you'll be doing a lot of walking, especially at Monticello! It's mostly outdoors, but the visitor center has indoor exhibits too. Dress for the weather since it can get hot in the summer but cooler in the evenings. Layering is your friend!

Q: How's the parking situation at Monticello?

A: Parking is pretty easy at Monticello with a dedicated lot right by the visitor center. It's free, but it can fill up during peak times. Just make sure you arrive a bit early if you're going on a weekend or during tourist season!

Thinking about gifting the UNESCO tour - any thoughts?

I'm considering this Private UNESCO World Heritage Tour for my parents' anniversary. They've always wanted to see Monticello, and it sounds like the guided tour would be perfect for history buffs! I’m a bit worried about how they’ll handle the walking, though. Anyone done this tour? What was the pacing like?

Just did the Monticello tour and wow!

I just got back from the Private UNESCO World Heritage Tour, and it was incredible! The University of Virginia is stunning, and the Rotunda is such a masterpiece. Monticello's grounds are beautiful, and the visitor center was really informative. Highly recommend eating at the Farm Table Cafe - we had some amazing sandwiches! Worth every penny!
