Q&A

Q: Is there a good time of year to visit the Ruth Bancroft Garden for the best plant displays?

A: I'd say spring and fall are the best times to visit! In spring, you'll see a lot of blooming cacti and succulents, while in fall, the foliage is just stunning. Plus, the weather is usually pretty mild during those seasons. Just check their website for any special events too, since those can make a visit even better.

Q: Are kids allowed? What's the age policy for admission?

A: Yes! Kids 4 and under get in for free, which is awesome if you’re bringing younger children! Just make sure to keep an eye on them since there are some tall cacti and succulents they might want to touch. A lot of parents have a great time there with their kids!

Q: What’s the parking situation like at the garden?

A: There’s a small parking lot right by the entrance which can fill up quickly, especially on weekends. If it's full, the street parking around the area is usually fine, but be sure to check any signs. It's best to arrive early to snag a spot if you're going on a busy day!

Thinking of gifting a trip to Ruth Bancroft Garden!

I’m looking to get my mom a unique gift and thought the Ruth Bancroft Garden would be perfect since she loves plants. It’s a free admission, which is a bonus! Has anyone been recently? What should I know to make it special for her? Are there any must-see plants?

Just visited the Ruth Bancroft Garden – here’s my take!

Wow, the Ruth Bancroft Garden is seriously a hidden gem! I went last month and loved all the unique succulents. The self-guided tour book was super helpful, and I ended up taking a ton of photos. My favorite part was the large cacti section! It’s definitely worth the trip if you’re in Oakland. Plus, the plant nursery had some great stuff to buy.
