Q&A

Q: Is there a minimum age requirement for the walking tour? Thinking of taking my 10-year-old!

A: Nope, there’s no minimum age requirement! It’s all ages, so your 10-year-old is totally welcome. Just keep in mind that some of the history might be a bit complex, but the guide usually does a great job of making it engaging for everyone. It’s a great way to get the little ones interested in history!

Q: What should I wear for the tour? Is it a lot of walking?

A: Dress comfortably! It's a walking tour, so you'll be on your feet a lot. I'd recommend wearing sneakers or good walking shoes. Salem's streets can be cobblestoned, so you want to be stable. Layers are a good idea too, since spring/summer weather can be unpredictable!

Q: What if it rains? Do they reschedule, or do we just get wet?

A: They run the tours rain or shine! So if it rains, bring a rain jacket or an umbrella and just embrace it. The guide often has rain-related stories, making it kind of fun. Just make sure to cancel at least 24 hours in advance if you decide it’s not for you.

Thinking about gifting the Salem Merchants and Mansions Tour!

I’m looking to buy this tour as a gift for my parents who love history. They’ve never been to Salem before! I love that it’s all ages and I’m hoping it’ll be a fun way for them to spend the day. Do you think it’s worth it? Any tips for booking?

Has anyone done the Merchants & Mansions tour?

I’m considering this walking tour for my friend’s birthday. They’re into architecture and history, and I think this would be perfect. Is it really as good as it sounds? How long does the tour usually last?
