The former Naval Training Center in San Diego has transformed itself into Liberty Station and this is your opportunity to learn important sailor skills without having to drop and give us 20! We'll explore the historic core of the area, and see the buildings that help transform new recruits into sailors and sailors into specialists. We'll start at the USS Brave art piece, explore the former Camp John Paul Jones, visit the former Command Center, the former detention camp, and pay tribute to the 52 submarines lost during World War II. We'll also see the modern golf course (and talk about who made it their final resting place), what Liberty Station has in common with Balboa Park, and learn some skills. After you pass muster, we'll celebrate your "graduation" with a certificate of completion and a beer.

Q&A

Q: Are there any age limits for this tour? Can kids join?

A: Great question! Kids ages 12 and up are welcome on this tour, but they must be accompanied by an adult. It’s a fun way for families to learn together and enjoy some history while exploring Liberty Station. Just keep in mind that the beer tasting is for those 21 and older, so the younger ones will get something non-alcoholic instead.

Q: What's the parking situation like at Liberty Station?

A: Parking is pretty decent at Liberty Station! There's free parking available in several lots, and usually, you can find a spot without too much trouble. Just be mindful of the busier times, especially on weekends. If you’re bringing a group, it’s good to arrive a bit early to secure a spot.

Q: What should we wear for this tour? Is it outdoors?

A: The tour does involve some walking outdoors, so comfortable shoes are a must! Dress in layers if the weather is unpredictable. I’d recommend checking the forecast before you go, just to be safe. Also, don’t forget sunscreen if it's sunny!

Just did the Liberty Station tour and it was awesome!

I went on the San Diego Liberty Station tour last weekend, and wow, it was such a cool experience! Our guide was super knowledgeable and we got to see some really interesting historical sites like the old Command Center and the USS Brave art piece. The beer at the end was a nice touch too! Highly recommend it for anyone who loves history or even just wants to learn more about the Navy's impact in the area.

Considering gifting the Liberty Station tour, any tips?

I'm thinking of getting the Liberty Station tour for my dad's birthday since he loves military history. Has anyone done it? Any tips for making the experience more special? I want to surprise him with a nice day out!
