Q&A
A: Yes, the Alcatraz tour can be suitable for kids, but I'd recommend it for ages 10 and up since some of the stories in the audio tour can be intense. There’s a lot of history to take in, but younger kids might not grasp everything. Just make sure they’re okay with the boat ride too, as it can be a little choppy!
A: If weather conditions are severe, the tour may be rescheduled, but you'll usually get notified in advance. If it’s just light rain or fog, the tour will typically still go on. Just be prepared with layers since it can get cold out on the water!
A: The best way is probably using public transit, like Muni or BART if you’re coming from further away. Parking can be tricky and expensive around the main attractions. If you’re near Fisherman’s Wharf, just walk over! The starting point for the Big Bus is easy to find.

Just did the Alcatraz tour! Here’s my take on it!
I just got back from the Alcatraz Island & Big Bus tour and it was amazing! The audio tour of the prison was super immersive, hearing real stories from inmates. The views of the Golden Gate were breathtaking, especially at sunset. Plus, the hop-on hop-off bus was a great way to explore the city without stressing about parking. Highly recommend this as a gift for anyone visiting SF!
Thinking of gifting the Alcatraz tour... any tips?
I'm considering getting the Alcatraz and Big Bus package for my parents' anniversary. They love history and sightseeing! Is there anything they should know before going? Like what to wear or if it gets crowded?
