Learn to surf on Maui. Lessons are taught at the best surf beach on the island. Gentle waves and friendly surf coaches will have you standing up and catching waves in no time. The Semi-private class is a smaller more intimate way to learn surfing. This class will only be your party with your own surf coach, no other surfers will be added to the group.  This is great for families or couples wanting a more intimate surf session. We also recommend this for smaller kids who may not want to be in a group with other adults. You and your group will catch more waves and have personal attention from your very own surf coach.

Q&A

Q: What's the age limit for kids in the semi-private surf lesson?

A: There's no strict age limit, but they recommend kids be at least 6 years old. They’ve had success with younger kids, especially since this is a semi-private lesson, so your child will get personal attention. Also, make sure to check with the coach beforehand if you have any specific concerns about your child's ability or comfort in the water!

Q: What should we wear for the surf lesson? Is there a chance of getting wet?

A: Definitely expect to get wet! A swimsuit is the best choice, and you can throw on a rash guard for some sun protection. Also, water shoes might be a good idea if you’re sensitive about standing on the sand or rocky areas. Just keep it casual and comfy!

Q: Is there a backup plan for bad weather? How do we reschedule?

A: Yes! If the weather doesn’t cooperate, they’ll reach out to you to reschedule, usually within 24 hours before the lesson. It’s pretty flexible, and they are super accommodating. Just keep an eye on your emails or texts for updates from Surf Club Maui!

Just booked a surf lesson at Kalama Beach - any tips?

I just got a semi-private surf lesson at Kalama Beach for my partner and me. I'm really excited but also a little nervous because I haven't surfed before! I read that the waves are gentle, which is reassuring. How hard is it to stand up on the board? Any tips for beginners?

Anyone done the semi-private lesson yet?

I’m thinking of getting this for my family as a gift. It sounds like a perfect way to spend some time together! How was your experience? Did you feel like the semi-private part made a difference?
