Q&A

Q: What should I wear for the surf lesson at Kalama Park?

A: I'd recommend wearing a swimsuit underneath your clothes since you'll be in the water for most of the lesson. The surf shirts and wetsuits are provided, but having your own swimsuit is key. Don't forget to bring a towel and maybe some sunscreen since you’ll be out in the sun! Stay comfortable!

Q: Is there an age limit for the semi-private surf lessons?

A: Yes! Generally, they recommend lessons for ages 6 and up. The instructors are great with kids and make sure everyone feels safe and included. If you have a younger child, you might want to call ahead to see if they can accommodate them or recommend a private lesson.

Q: What happens if the weather turns bad on the day of the lesson?

A: If the weather's bad, they usually reschedule the lesson and will work with you to find another time that fits your schedule. It's Hawaii, so the weather can change quickly, but safety is their top priority! Just stay in touch with them on the day of your lesson.

Just booked my semi-private surf lesson at Kalama Park!

So I just booked a surf lesson for next week at Kalama Park in Kihei and I’m super excited! I've never surfed before, but I’ve heard Maui Waveriders is awesome. The semi-private format seems cool because I’ll be with a small group. I hope I can actually stand up on the board! 😅 Anyone else done this? Any tips?

Anyone else nervous for their first surf lesson?

I just booked a semi-private surf lesson at Kalama Park too, and I’m freaking out a bit! I can barely swim and am worried about the waves. I saw they include wetsuits, which I hope helps. Is it really beginner-friendly?
