Immerse yourself in waterfall hiking in one of the most unique geologic formations in Oregon! Over the course of the three hours we are in the canyon, we will discovering South Falls' stunning amphitheater and history as the centerpiece of a failed attempt to become Oregon's first National Park. From here we will descend into the up-and-down trails that make up the gorgeous canyon, encountering century-plus-old trees, wildflowers in season, mosses, lichens, and mushrooms and a variety of fantastic rock formations. We will experience up-close encounters with some of the state's most unusual and impressive waterfall formations. On this hiking experience we will explore 4-6 waterfalls and enjoy snacks with the option to purchase a light breakfast or lunch from the cafe. Our hike will be between three and eight miles (5 - 13 km) depending on group energy and desire.

Q&A

Q: What should I wear for the Silver Falls hiking tour? Is it muddy?

A: I did the Silver Falls hike last month and it was amazing! I’d recommend wearing comfortable hiking shoes with good grip, and definitely dress in layers. The trails can be muddy, especially near the waterfalls, so maybe leave your new kicks at home. I wore quick-dry pants and a light jacket, which worked great!

Q: Can this tour be rescheduled if the weather is bad?

A: Yes, Around Portland Tours is pretty flexible with rescheduling due to weather conditions. Just give them a call or email, and they’ll help you pick a new date. I had to do this once, and they were super accommodating. Just keep an eye on the forecast!

Q: Are kids allowed on this hike? What age range is best?

A: Kids are definitely welcome on the Silver Falls hike! I took my 10-year-old and he had a blast. I’d say it’s best for ages 8 and up, especially because some of the trails can be steep. Just make sure they’re good with walking for several miles and can handle a bit of uneven terrain.
