Join Coastal Kayak Charters for a small group guided kayak tour of the Shell Key Preserve. We are one of the few companies running kayak Tours to Shell Key. You begin with a relaxing boat ride to the island, where you begin your kayak adventure. Our trips offer more personalized service and better wildlife viewing opportunities while out on the water. We will explore hidden mangrove tunnels, shallow seagrass meadows, and stop on Shell Island for time to swim, look for shells, or just relax and enjoy the beach. Our tours are designed for beginners and experienced kayakers alike. We use stable user friendly kayaks that provide a great paddling experience. We primarily use double kayaks unless you have an odd number in your group. If you prefer single kayaks they are available through our website. Then you return home on a relaxing 15min boat ride back to the dock. Come explore with local professionals who love what they do and see the difference for yourself.

Q&A

Q: Is there a weight limit for the kayaks?

A: Yes, there is a weight limit. Each seat has a 250 lbs limit, and for double kayaks, it's 450 lbs combined. Just make sure to check before you book, especially if you're going out with a buddy. They primarily use double kayaks, but singles are available if needed!

Q: How should we dress for the kayak tour? Is it wet?

A: Definitely wear something comfortable and suitable for water. Quick-dry clothes are great, and don’t forget a swimsuit if you plan to swim on Shell Island! Flip flops are fine, but water shoes are a good idea for walking on the beach. A hat and sunglasses are nice too!

Q: What's the best way to get to the launch site? Is parking easy?

A: The launch site is pretty accessible. There’s a parking lot right by the launch point, but get there early because it can fill up. It's a short walk from where you park to the launch area, so wear comfy shoes!

Thinking of gifting the kayak tour at Shell Key Preserve!

Hey everyone! I’m considering getting a kayak tour of the Shell Key Preserve for my brother's birthday. He’s never kayaked before, but loves being outdoors. Has anyone here done this? What’s the experience like? I want to make sure it’s beginner-friendly and a good time!

Just finished the kayak tour at Shell Key and it was amazing!

OMG, I just got back from the small group kayak tour and it was a blast! The boat ride to the island was so chill, and once we started kayaking, the views were stunning. The mangrove tunnels are like something out of a postcard! We even spotted some dolphins near the seagrass meadows. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a fun day out!
