Q&A

Q: Are there any age limits for the Summer Valley and Forest Hike experience?

A: There's no strict age limit for this hike! However, it's best suited for older kids and adults who can handle moderate hiking. Just keep in mind that the trails can be a bit rough in places, so younger kids might need some extra supervision. It's a great way to introduce them to the beauty of Alaska's wilderness, but maybe bring a backpack and some patience for the little ones!

Q: What happens if the weather's bad? Can we reschedule?

A: If the weather looks unsafe, the hike can be rescheduled. Just reach out to Go Hike Alaska as soon as you can, and they’ll work with you to find a new date. It can be rainy in summer, but sometimes it's just part of the adventure! They usually keep you updated on conditions leading up to your hike.

Q: What should we wear for the hike? Any special gear needed?

A: Definitely wear sturdy shoes, like hiking boots or good sneakers, since the trails can get rocky. Dress in layers, too, because it might be cool in the morning but warm up later. A light rain jacket is a good idea just in case. Go Hike Alaska provides trekking poles if you need them, which can be super helpful for uneven ground!

Thinking of gifting the Summer Valley and Forest Hike!

I’m looking to get this hike for my partner's birthday! We’ve never hiked in Alaska before. I love that it includes a naturalist to tell us about the area and the option to see wildlife. Do you think it’s challenging? Also, what’s the best time of year to go?

Just did the Summer Valley and Forest Hike – amazing experience!

I went on the Summer Valley and Forest Hike last week, and it was breathtaking! The views of Barbara Falls are unreal, and our guide was super knowledgeable about the wildlife. We even saw a moose! Definitely pack your snacks and enjoy the granola bars they give you. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a fun outdoor adventure in Anchorage!
