Our guided "Swim With the Manatees" tour is our number one attraction. You get the opportunity to experience manatees up close and personal in their natural habitat on colder days. Manatee season runs from November 15th through March 31st each year. We have amazing local guides who know our waters very well so you could spot several manatees in the right conditions. The colder the temperatures, the more manatees you will see. On warmer days/weeks, some tours get zero manatees because it is a natural environment and they are not always around to see. The manatees head back out to the Gulf of Mexico where the food supply is more bountiful for them. You will learn the right way to interact with these amazing animals through passive observation and learn all about our ecosystem here in Crystal River.

Q&A

Q: What happens if we don't see any manatees on our tour?

A: It's totally possible to not see manatees, especially on warmer days when they head back to the Gulf for food. If that happens, your guides will do their best to give you a memorable experience and might take you to see other wildlife or teach you about the local ecosystem. Just keep in mind that this is nature, so sightings can vary!

Q: Is there an age limit for kids on this tour?

A: There's no specific age limit, but kids should be able to swim comfortably as you'll be snorkeling. It's recommended for ages 5 and up. Just check with the tour provider to ensure they're able to participate safely and enjoyably.

Q: What should I wear for the swim? Wetsuit provided?

A: Yes, they provide wetsuits, but you might want to wear your own swimsuit underneath. It's also a good idea to bring water shoes or sandals since you might be walking on some sharp rocks or shells. Don't forget sunscreen and a towel for after the swim!

Just booked the Swim With Manatees experience!

I’m so pumped! Just booked the Swim With Manatees tour in Crystal River for late February. I heard that’s a great time to see them. Can anyone share tips on what to expect? I’m a little nervous about snorkeling too. What if I freak out?

Anyone else worried about the weather for the manatee swim?

I’m thinking of getting this as a gift, but what if it gets canceled due to bad weather? I know they swim more when it’s cold, but can they cancel our tour?
