Q&A
A: You’ll want to dress in layers! A moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating middle layer, and a waterproof outer layer are key. It can get chilly in Taos during the winter, especially in the mountains, so don’t forget gloves, a warm hat, and good winter boots. They provide snowshoes, but your choice of clothing makes a huge difference in comfort.
A: Great question! Kids are welcome as long as they're comfortable with a few hours of outdoor activity. Just make sure they can handle the cold and are dressed appropriately. It’s a great way to introduce them to winter sports! Always best to check with the provider if you have very young kids.
A: If the weather looks sketchy, you can usually reschedule. Just give the tour provider a call ahead of time. They want everyone to have a good experience, so they’ll be understanding as long as you reach out. It’s best to be flexible though, since winter weather can change quickly!

Just got back from the Taos snowshoe tour—what an experience!
I did the Taos Backcountry Snowshoe Tour last weekend, and it was incredible! The guide was super knowledgeable and made the whole day feel relaxed. The trails in Amole Canyon were gorgeous, and the Ponderosa Pines looked spectacular with the snow. They provided everything we needed, including a delicious lunch choice that I loved. Highly recommend it as a gift for anyone who loves nature or just wants to try something new!
Thinking about gifting the snowshoe tour—any tips?
I’m considering giving the Taos snowshoe tour as a gift for my partner who loves being outdoors. I read it's around 4.5 hours long, which sounds perfect! Do they really provide the snowshoes and food? What’s the best time of year to go?
