Set in the historically linguistic melting pot of the Lower East Side, this two hour exploration of words and accents is led by a guide in a jumpsuit known as “The Tour”—but all guests participate. Together everyone explores through group activities the origins of local slang and the distinctive New York accent. More importantly, we also communicate across the city’s diverse cultures to see how they form a new one.

Q: Is there an age limit for this walking tour? Can kids join?

A: There’s no strict age limit for The City Speaks tour! Kids are totally welcome but keep in mind it is a walking tour, so they should be able to keep up for about two hours. Plus, there's a lot of cultural references and slang that might fly over younger heads. Perfect for curious teens!

Q: What happens if the weather is bad? Do we get rescheduled?

A: If the weather's bad, they usually notify you a day before and can reschedule you or provide a full refund. I had to change my booking once because of rain, and they were super helpful about it!

Q: What should I wear for the tour? Is it a lot of walking?

A: Definitely wear comfy shoes because it's a walking tour! We walked quite a bit through the Lower East Side. I suggest layers too, since you might get a bit warm moving around but it can be chilly in the shade. Just dress casual, it’s all laid-back!
