This Private Tour of Castro and Mission will introduce you to the city’s hippest neighbourhoods, notable for their LGBTQ community and cool, artsy vibe. In the Castro, learn about the extraordinary accomplishments of SF residents in halting demolition, stopping four-lane freeways and affecting positive change in feminism, peace, and LGBTQ rights. In the Mission District, you will venture down Clarion Alley and see the fabulous urban graffiti and satirical political street art as you stroll in the footsteps of feminists, Latinos, artists and activists who continue to fight for the soul of San Francisco. Pop into the Mission Dolores to see the oldest building in San Francisco, along with shrubbery and a garden reflective of the mission in the early 1790s. With a buzzing cultural mix and sizzling street food, Mission is famous for its galleries, neon-lit clubs and basement bars and is blessed with the leafy greenery of picturesque Dolores Park.

Q&A

Q: Are there any age restrictions for the tour? Can kids come along?

A: No specific age restrictions for this tour, so kids are definitely welcome! Just keep in mind that some of the street art and discussions may touch on adult themes. It’s a great way for families to learn about the history and culture of the Castro and Mission Districts together.

Q: What do you wear on this tour? Is it mostly walking?

A: Definitely wear comfy shoes, as you’ll be doing a fair amount of walking! The tour is mostly on foot, especially through the Castro and Mission. I'd recommend layers, too, since it can get chilly by the water but warm up as you walk around. Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere!

Q: What happens if it rains? Do they cancel the tour?

A: The tour can still happen in the rain, so it's best to check the weather beforehand. Your guide will adapt the tour to keep you dry and comfortable. If it’s severe weather, they might reach out to reschedule. Definitely keep an eye on the forecast!

Considering the Vibrant Castro & Mission Tour as a gift!

Hey everyone! I’m thinking about getting this private half-day tour for my friend’s birthday. They love art and history, plus the LGBTQ community is super important to them. Would this be a good choice? What are the highlights? Any tips?

Just did the Castro & Mission tour - it was amazing!

I went on the Vibrant Castro & Mission District tour last week and wow, it exceeded my expectations! Our guide was super knowledgeable and we got to see so much cool art. The Mission Dolores was beautiful too. Plus, the food trucks in the Mission were a highlight! Highly recommend it to anyone.
