With 3100 miles of streams in the Smokies, there are thousands of beautiful stretches of white water. Adventure awaits as you explore the magic of pristine cascades and waterfalls on a little-known trail. We'll warm up on a more popular trail, pausing to enjoy smaller cascades before turning onto a less traveled section of the Park. In the winter, we'll enjoy beautiful glimpses of the surrounding mountains, during the spring we'll pause to enjoy our famous wildflower display, summer brings refreshing swimming holes, and in autumn the beauty of changing leaves. This hike is considered moderately adventurous as we gain elevation, climb over downed trees and get our feet wet. **Please note: The Great Smoky Mountains National Park will require parking tags for any vehicle stopping longer than 15 minutes.

Q&A

Q: Can you reschedule this hike if the weather turns bad?

A: Yes, you can reschedule! A Walk in the Woods has a flexible rescheduling policy, especially for weather-related issues. Just reach out to them a day before if you see bad weather coming, and they'll help you pick another date. Super easy!

Q: What should I wear for this hike? Any recommendations?

A: I'd recommend wearing sturdy hiking boots for sure since you'll be climbing and crossing streams. Layers are a good idea too—mornings can be chilly in Gatlinburg! Don’t forget a rain jacket just in case, and wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit wet.

Q: Is this hike suitable for kids? What age is recommended?

A: It depends on the age and ability of the kids! The hike is moderately adventurous, so I’d suggest kids around 10 and up if they're used to outdoor activities. Just make sure they’re comfortable with uneven terrain and some climbing. A Walk in the Woods guides can assist with younger hikers too if needed!

Just did the Thundering Streams hike—amazing experience!

Hey everyone! I just got back from the Thundering Streams and Falls guided hiking tour in Gatlinburg, and wow, it was incredible! We started on a popular trail but quickly veered off to this hidden spot with stunning waterfalls. The guide was super knowledgeable and even shared some cool facts about the flora. I wasn't expecting to see so many wildflowers in bloom! Definitely a bit of a workout, but totally worth it. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a fun day outdoors!
