Q&A
A: There’s no strict age limit, but kids need to be able to swim to participate. I'd recommend it for ages 8 and up, especially since you’ll be in open water. Also, make sure they’re comfortable with snorkeling gear. If they’re nervous, maybe check if they have a swim lesson beforehand!
A: If the weather is bad, they typically reschedule or offer a full refund. They keep safety as a top priority, so if conditions aren’t safe for snorkeling, they’ll let you know ahead of time. Just keep in mind that you might want to have flexible plans if you're booking this as a gift.
A: You’ll want to wear a swimsuit and maybe a rash guard for sun protection. Flip-flops are fine for the boat, but bring water shoes if you plan to walk on any rocky areas. Don't forget sunscreen and a hat! Just make sure it’s reef-safe sunscreen to protect the ocean life.

Just did the Ultimate Ocean Encounters snorkel trip - WOW!
I just got back from the Ultimate Ocean Encounters snorkel experience and I can't recommend it enough! The crew was super knowledgeable about the Kona Coast, and we saw dolphins and a bunch of colorful fish. The snorkeling at Makalawena was amazing – the lava formations are beautiful underwater. Just remember to bring a good camera for the turtles! Seriously a must-do on the Big Island.
Thinking about gifting the Ultimate Ocean Encounters experience - any advice?
I’m considering getting this snorkeling experience as a gift for my partner’s birthday. They love the ocean but have never snorkeled before. Is it beginner-friendly? What should I be aware of?
