Paddling a Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe or Wa'a from the site where King Kamehameha united the Hawaiian Islands and watched over his kingdom is a chance to connect with the Hawaii's history and culture. We teach you the basics of paddling a Wa'a and provide a steersman/woman to guide you through a historical tour of Kailua Bay, sharing some of the significant sites and events of the area. One of our absolute favorite activities to provide and a traditional way to experience Hawaii.

Q&A

Q: Is there an age limit for the Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe excursions?

A: Yes, there is generally an age limit for kids under 5, as they might not be able to fit safely in the lifejackets provided. But older kids and teens can usually join in! It’s a great experience for families, just keep an eye on younger ones as the water can get choppy at times.

Q: How does the scheduling work? Can we reschedule if the weather turns bad?

A: Scheduling is pretty flexible! If the weather looks questionable, they usually contact you a day prior to confirm. If it’s canceled, you can easily reschedule for another day. Just make sure to check the forecast because they won't take risks out there.

Q: What should we wear for the canoe excursion?

A: You’ll want to wear lightweight, quick-drying clothes since you might get splashed! A swimsuit is a safe bet. Also, don’t forget sunscreen and sunglasses—it's super sunny out on the water.

Just did the Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe excursion—amazing!

I recently went on the canoe tour in Kailua Bay, and it was incredible! The history behind it all, paddling where King Kamehameha once ruled, was such a unique experience. Our steerswoman was super knowledgeable and made it fun. The only downside was that I got a little sunburned, so wear plenty of sunscreen!

Considering gifting the canoe excursion—thoughts?

I’m thinking about getting this excursion for my parents' anniversary. They love history and outdoorsy stuff. Do you think it's suitable for older folks? I want it to be memorable but not too strenuous.
