For 2 hours, take a private, guided stroll along charming and historic Summit Ave. in St. Paul, Minnesota, past stately homes built during the Gilded Age that are nearly perfectly preserved today. You'll hear stories about the barons and tycoons who built these homes and how their houses have survived 120 or more years of change. You'll also wind through a former back alley now transformed into a charming city street that features modern residences in historic structures. Residential architecture buffs will spot nearly every type of home style popular during the Victorian era - Queen Anne, Italianate, Georgian Revival, Neo-classical, Romanesque, Beaux Arts, Tudor and more. Love grand, old homes that are pristinely preserved as active residences? Enjoy meandering outdoor sidewalks among trees, parks, fine landscapes and beautiful buildings? This tour is for you. Q&A

Q: Is there a max group size for the private tour? Thinking of gifting this to my parents and some friends.

A: The private tour can accommodate up to 10 people comfortably. It's a great way to experience Summit Ave. with family and friends! Just make sure to book in advance since larger groups can fill up quickly. Douglas is super friendly and makes sure everyone feels included!

Q: What should I wear for the Summit Ave. tour? Is it a lot of walking?

A: You'll be walking for 2 hours, so definitely wear comfortable shoes! Dress for the weather, too – layers are a good idea since it can get a bit windy by those old homes. I went in the spring and it was lovely, but I wish I had a light jacket!

Q: Can this tour be rescheduled if we can't make it? Just worried about the weather.

A: Yes, you can reschedule if the weather isn’t cooperating! Just reach out to Douglas in advance, and he’ll work with you. It’s always best to check the forecast before your day, but if it’s really bad, they’re pretty flexible about moving your tour.

Thinking of gifting the Victorian Homes Tour for my parents—any thoughts?

I found the Walking St. Paul Summit Ave. Victorian Homes Tour and think it would be a great gift for my parents. They love old architecture and history! Has anyone done this? What did you think? Also, do you know if the guide shares personal stories about the homes? I think that would make it even more special.

Just did the Victorian Homes Tour—here's my experience!

I went on the Walking St. Paul Summit Ave. Victorian Homes Tour last week! It was such a beautiful day and Douglas was an amazing guide. Learned so much about the history of the area and the stunning homes. My favorite was the huge Queen Anne with the tower—absolutely breathtaking! I can’t recommend this enough for anyone who loves architecture or just wants to enjoy a nice walk. Perfect for a gift!
