Travel back to the 1970s, to an East Village when apartments were cheap, Rock was great, and you had to show up in person to buy tickets! We’ll visit the sites of the legendary Fillmore East, the long gone CBGB’s, and The Bottom Line, places that launched the careers of some of the biggest names in music. We’ll also walk to some lesser known, but equally significant, sites where artists honed their craft and first gained a following, places like Club 82, On the Rocks, and Great Gildersleeves. Were you at The Bottom Line in 1975 when Bruce Springsteen first blew the socks off the music world with Born to Run? Or did you see Patti Smith at CBGB’s in 1976 after the release of Horses? What a SHOW! We’ll also revisit some of the legendary shows of The Who and Pink Floyd at the Fillmore East, as well as the New York Dolls at the Mercer Arts Center. Along the way we’ll dip our toe into the world of Disco at the site of Infinity, a dance club destroyed by fire 1979. Tour runs w/confirmation.

Q&A

Q: Is there a minimum age requirement for the walking tour?

A: There's no strict age limit for the walking tour, but I'd recommend it for ages 12 and up. Younger kids might lose interest since it's mostly historical and music-focused. Just be prepared for some walking and a bit of standing around at each site. If you bring kids, make sure they can keep up!

Q: What should I wear for this tour? Is it a lot of walking?

A: Definitely wear comfortable shoes! It’s a walking tour, so you'll be on your feet quite a bit. Dress for the weather, too—layers are a good idea since you might start off a bit cool, then warm up as you walk. Also, bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated.

Q: What happens if it rains on the day of the tour?

A: If it rains, you might want to check in with me, but typically, the tour runs unless it’s a total downpour. In that case, we can reschedule for a day that works for everyone. Just keep an umbrella handy if the forecast looks iffy!

Just booked the walking tour of 70s music venues!

I just bought tickets for the East Village music tour as a gift for my dad, who’s a huge Springsteen fan. He used to go to all those places like CBGBs and The Fillmore East back in the day! I can’t wait to hear him share his stories while we explore. Has anyone done this tour? What should I expect?

Thinking about gifting the 70s Music Venues Tour

I’m considering this walking tour for my music-loving friend’s birthday. He adores classic rock and often reminisces about the golden age of music. Do you think it’s worth it? And what’s the vibe like? I want to make sure he really enjoys it!
