Just did the guided tour, and wow!

I can't recommend the Washington DC & Philadelphia tour enough! The guide was super knowledgeable, and seeing the Liberty Bell was a highlight. We even had some time to grab a cheese steak in Philly. Perfect day trip from NYC. Totally worth it!
