Q&A
A: Yes, Dana Wharf is pretty flexible with weather cancellations. If it’s unsafe or visibility is poor, you can reschedule your trip without any extra fees. Just make sure to call them ahead of time to confirm. I did it last year and they were super accommodating!
A: Nope, there’s no age limit! Kids of all ages can join the trip, but just keep in mind that it might be a bit long for toddlers. They do have life jackets available, so that’s good to know. I took my 7-year-old and she loved it!
A: Dress in layers! It can be warm when you start but chilly out on the water. A light jacket is a good idea, and don’t forget sunglasses and sunscreen since the reflection off the water can be intense. I went in the fall and was glad I had a hoodie.

Just went on the whale watching trip in Dana Point and WOW!
I took my partner on the whale watching excursion out of Dana Point last weekend and it was incredible! We saw a pod of dolphins and even a couple of gray whales. The captain was super knowledgeable and made the trip extra special. The views were stunning, especially with the sunset! Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a unique gift experience. Just don’t forget your jacket!
Thinking about gifting the whale watching trip—any tips?
I’m considering getting this whale watching experience for my sister’s birthday. She loves marine life! Any tips on the best time to go or things to watch out for? I want it to be a great surprise, but I’m a bit nervous about the whole experience. What if we don’t see any whales?
