Explore the strenuous off-trail alpine terrain of wild Alaska with fantastic views on this full day adventure. This tour is only recommended for hikers and mountain climbers looking for a challenging adventure.  Our trip begins with a 40-minute van ride into the mountains and up the White Pass, which borders Alaska and the Yukon Territory in Canada. After we gear up, we’ll venture into the alpine of White Pass. Our route will cover about 6 miles and gain up to 3,000 feet in elevation. Typically, our objective is to climb to the summit of Feather Peak or Mount Cleveland, both of which stand at about 5,500 feet. We may use crampons, ice axes, ropes and other technical equipment to access the summit. Safety is always our top priority; the exact route will depend on conditions, group ability, and your guide's discretion. We allow for a full 8 hours for this adventure, however, timing in the mountains can be variable. We’ll be sure to get you back to your cruise ship on time.

Q&A

Q: Is there a recommended age limit for this mountaineering adventure?

A: There's no strict age limit, but generally, participants should be at least 14 years old and in good physical shape. This is a strenuous hike, so it's important that everyone can handle the elevation gain and technical aspects. If you're considering this as a gift for a younger person, maybe check with the guides first to see if they'll be comfortable with the challenges.

Q: What should I wear for this mountaineering experience? Any specific gear recommendations?

A: Wear layered clothing since temperatures can change quickly in the mountains. Bring a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating layer (like fleece), and a waterproof shell. Don't forget good hiking boots with ankle support, and pack gloves and a warm hat just in case! The guides provide some gear, but it’s good to be prepared.

Q: What happens if the weather is bad on the day of the adventure?

A: If the weather conditions are unsafe, the guides will reschedule your adventure to another day. They prioritize safety above all. So if it’s too rainy or windy, don't worry! You’ll just get a chance to experience it on a better day.

Just did the White Pass Mountaineering Adventure - What an experience!

I just got back from the White Pass Mountaineering Adventure and wow, it was intense! We hiked about 6 miles up to Feather Peak. The views were breathtaking, but man, I was huffing and puffing the whole way! The guides were super knowledgeable and made sure we were all safe. Highly recommend if you’re up for a challenge. Just be ready for some serious elevation gain - it’s not for the faint of heart!

Considering the White Pass Mountaineering Adventure as a gift - is it worth it?

I’m looking to buy this as a gift for my brother who loves hiking. Is it really as tough as it sounds? I want him to have a blast, but I don’t want him to be totally worn out. Any tips or advice would be super helpful!
