This is the "High Adventure" option for those who want the wettest, wildest ride in Jackson Hole. Lewis & Clark (est. 1971) runs the absolute smallest guided rafts on the Snake River. More importantly, we are the only outfitter offering a pure "paddle-only" experience. We stripped away the heavy oar-frames found on other tours to give you a lighter, faster, and more responsive boat. In our 14-foot rafts, you sit right on the waterline. Every wave looks bigger and hits harder. It is an aggressive, team-focused run where you provide the horsepower to smash through legendary rapids like Big Kahuna and Lunch Counter. With a maximum of 8 guests, there is nowhere to hide from the splash. This is the closest you can get to the whitewater without actually swimming. The trip covers 8 miles of Class II and III whitewater featuring rapids such as "Lunch Counter" and "Big Kahuna." Round-trip time is approximately 3.5 hours. For an exclusive experience, call our office to book a private boat.

Q&A

Q: Are there any age limits for this whitewater rafting experience?

A: Yes, participants need to be at least 12 years old to go on this whitewater rafting adventure. It's pretty intense with Class II and III rapids, so younger kids might not have the best time. Just keep in mind, they’ll also need to be able to comfortably wear a life jacket that fits properly.

Q: What should we wear for the whitewater rafting adventure?

A: You'll want to wear quick-drying clothes, like swimwear or synthetic fabrics. Don’t forget water shoes or sandals that you can strap on, as you'll get soaked! Also, bring a change of clothes for after, just in case. The guide will provide splash jackets, but they're not always a guarantee against getting drenched!

Q: What happens if the weather is bad and they cancel?

A: If they have to cancel due to severe weather, they usually offer to reschedule you or provide a refund. It's pretty rare they cancel unless it's really dangerous. Just keep an eye on the weather and maybe call them a day in advance to check in.

Thinking about gifting the whitewater rafting experience in Jackson Hole!

I’m looking for a unique experience to gift my partner’s birthday. The Whitewater Rafting Small Boat Adventure sounds like a wild time! I love that it’s a paddle-only experience—feels more personal. Has anyone done this specific trip? How was it? Are the rapids really as intense as they sound, and is it good for someone who's never rafted before?

Just got back from the Snake River rafting trip!

Wow, what a rush! I went on the Small Boat Adventure last weekend, and it was absolutely insane. The Big Kahuna rapid is no joke! It was great being in a smaller raft because you really feel the power of the river. Plus, our guide was awesome and made it even more fun. I’d totally recommend this to anyone looking for an adventure!
