Your adventure begins as we cruise through the Tongass Narrows, where your guide provides live narration about Ketchikan’s rich history, culture, and bustling shoreline. From there, we head into prime wildlife viewing areas where the wild side of Alaska comes alive. Keep watch for humpback whales surfacing and diving, bald eagles soaring overhead, harbor seals lounging along the rocks, and a wide variety of seabirds that thrive in the rich waters of Southeast Alaska. Every trip is unique—no two tours are ever the same! We operate two vessels: the Eagle One (22 passengers max) and the Eagle One Express (44 passengers max). The boat used for your tour is determined by group size and daily minimums to ensure the best experience for everyone. Our tours regularly encounter marine life, and we’re proud to have about a 90% success rate for humpback whale sightings—a number we work hard to maintain! That said, wildlife is always on its own schedule, and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Q&A

Q: What should we wear for the whale watching tour? Is it cold on the boat?

A: Definitely dress in layers! It can get chilly on the water, especially with wind. I'd recommend a warm jacket, a hat, and maybe some gloves. Also, wear comfortable shoes since you'll be moving around a bit on the boat. If you have a rain jacket, bring that too, just in case!

Q: Can we reschedule if the weather looks bad?

A: Yes, they have a flexible rescheduling policy. If the weather's not good for the tour, they’ll usually reach out to you to discuss options. It’s best to call them directly as soon as you have concerns, and they’ll help you find another time that works!

Q: Is this suitable for young kids? What age do you recommend?

A: Absolutely, kids love this experience! There’s no strict age limit, but I’d say any kid old enough to sit still and enjoy the view (around 5 years and up) will have a blast. Just keep in mind to bring snacks for younger ones, since it can be a few hours long. They’ll be amazed by the whales and seals!

Just got back from the Wildlife Viewing Quest - Amazing experience!

I went on the whale watching tour last week in Ketchikan, and it was incredible! We saw a couple of humpback whales and tons of bald eagles. The guide was super friendly and knowledgeable. The snacks were a nice touch too! Highly recommend this for anyone planning a trip to Alaska. Just remember to dress warm!

Considering the Wildlife Viewing tour as a gift - any thoughts?

I’m thinking about getting this experience for my parents' anniversary. They love nature but have never been on a whale watching tour! Has anyone done this? Any tips on the best time to go or what to expect?
