Q&A
A: There’s no strict age limit, but it’s recommended for teens and adults since the snowshoes can be a bit bulky for younger kids. Just make sure they’re comfortable walking in snow. The staff can help you find the right size!
A: Layering is key! You’ll want to wear moisture-wicking base layers, a warm fleece or down jacket, and a waterproof outer layer. Don’t forget warm socks and good winter boots. Dress in layers so you can adjust as you hike!
A: They’re super flexible! You can pick up your gear as early as 7 AM and return it until 8 PM. This is great if you want to maximize your hiking time or have a busy schedule. Just give them a call if you need an earlier or later pick-up.

Thinking about gifting the winter hiking set; anyone tried it?
I’m considering getting the Winter Hiking Set from Alaska Outdoor Gear Rental for my sister’s birthday. She loves the outdoors, but hasn’t done snowshoeing before. I like that they provide instruction and flexible pick-up times. Just worried about how hard it is for beginners. Anyone have experience with this?
Just did the winter hiking experience - here’s my take!
I just rented the snowshoes and trekking poles for a day in Fairbanks, and it was amazing! The gear was in great shape and super easy to use. I went with friends who had never tried it before, and we all had a great time. The instructions they gave us made it easy to get started. Definitely worth it!
