The Matanuska Glacier is a premiere attraction in Alaska (and our absolute favorite!) Up to 10 guests will enjoy a scenic drive along the beautiful Matanuska river in a Mercedes Sprinter. We'll stop on the way for snacks and coffee and enjoy a guided tour as you relax in comfort and style! Once at the Glacier, we will join a guided tour by the local Matanuska Park Guides throughout the glacier and you will be told about the history, size and scope as you traverse the canyons, peaks, valleys and caves on this beginner to intermediate hike.

Q&A

Q: What should I wear for the glacier hike? Are there any specific clothing recommendations?

A: Definitely dress in layers! It can be chilly on the glacier even in summer. I’d recommend moisture-wicking base layers, a warm fleece, and a waterproof jacket on top. Also, good hiking boots are a must as the terrain can be slippery and uneven.

Q: Is there an age limit for this experience? Can my kids join?

A: Kids aged 8 and up can join this hike, but they should be comfortable walking for a few hours. The hike itself is suitable for beginners, but you'll want to keep an eye on younger ones as some areas are a bit tricky. It's a great family adventure!

Q: What happens if the weather is bad on the day of our hike?

A: If the weather conditions aren't safe for hiking on the glacier, they usually reschedule for you. They will contact you ahead of time if things look bad, so you have a chance to adjust your plans. Just make sure to check your email as your date approaches!

Just booked the Matanuska Glacier hike for my birthday!

I’m so excited! I booked this hiking adventure for my birthday next month. I've always wanted to see a glacier up close, and the guided tour sounds perfect. The drive along the Matanuska River is supposed to be stunning, and I can’t wait to try the snacks they provide. Any tips for the best time to go or what to expect?

Looking for gift ideas, is the glacier hike worth it?

Hey everyone, I’m thinking about giving this glacier hike as a gift for my dad’s retirement. He’s always been outdoorsy and would totally appreciate this. But I wanna know if it’s worth the money? What’s the experience like? Any feedback would help!
